This CD is a tribute to all of the many wonderful solo artists and
groups of the 1950's and 60's. Although only some of them were
commercially successful, they all deserved fame and fortune. It is
a compilation of pre-Motown sounds of the early rhythm & blues
and doo wop era which contains treasures and highly sought-after
collectables including the Four Guys (one of the first inter-racial
groups produced in 1953), and The Pentagons, whose recording "To Be
Loved" became a classic.
Also featured is The Laurels' original recording of "Baby
Talk", which was later covered by Jan and Dean, and "Short
Shorts", produced in 1958, only to become the fastest million
selling record at that time due to the airplay it received by the famed
disk jockey Alan Freed. And there are many more in this
package. If you could purchase these recordings individually on
the collector's market, it would cost you several thousands of dollars. In addition to being a tribute to the artists of the 1950's and 60's, this
CD is a tribute to Lee Silver who produced these recordings. Lee has
the ability to recognize the potential talent in the artists he works
with, some of the more recognizable are The Royal Teens (Bob Gaudio, who
founded the Four Seasons), Al Kooper (who started Blood, Sweat and Tears),
Herb Alpert (of the Tijuana Brass and co-founder of A & M Records),
Bobby Hart (who wrote for and produced The Monkees).
Some vintage cuts have been restored and remastered as best as possible; due to the age of these recordings, some artifacts may remain. We hope you enjoy this CD, which takes you back to the treasured time and music of the 1950's and 60's.
